April, 2010 WE HAVE SHUT DOWN THE STORE IN WHITE ROCK FOR GOOD.
SO FAR WE CAN STILL SELL MOST REGENCY PRODUCTS.
As of Sept 20, We are in the process of getting new phone numbers and answering system. 778 395 7891 will be our new number. If this number does not work call me on my cell 778 888 9984
Q: How does my fireplace work
The short answer is most gas fireplaces operate by generating their own electricity. This is the most common way that gas fireplaces work and the most common way that this occurs is by thermo-electric generation by the pilot light heat.
The amount of electricity is very small and is measured in mv. (Millivolts)
For example one typical AA battery = 1500 mv.
A Thermocouple must generate between 18 and 30 mv. or the pilot won't hold steady.
A Thermopile must generate 325 to 750 mv. for the main burner flame to come up.
If the pilot flame is orange in colour or too small the amount of mv current will become too low so the above functions will be affected.
More detailed answers;
What about that start-up were I hold the Pilot button in for 10 to 60 seconds, what am I waiting for?
The pilot will stay lit when the thermocouple or thermopile is generating enough mv for that small amount of power to find its way into the valve where a tiny electro-magnet will hold a metal rod so that the gas will continue to flow. This is all for safety. If the pilot goes out , then within 30 to 120 seconds the magnet lets go and shuts down the gas flow until you relight the pilot.
If you have a manual valve system you can now can now continue with that operation.
If you have a Remote Capable valve you can now turn the valve to on.
What causes the main burner light up?
The thermopile (TP) 325 to700 mv power goes through the switch ,thermo-stat or remote (call for heat) to a switch in the valve called a solenoid which causes the main burner to fire. If the mv power is good the most common cause of failure is the switch.
The light switches are designed for 120 volts, and the pilot is generating only 1/2 volt.
Gas Inserts: We can only put a gas or wood insert into a fireplace which has the capability of burning wood.
For accurate sizing we need to know:
The Height of the opening (please measure from the hearth to the steel support bar)
The Width of the opening doesn't matter that much.
